Introduction to Political Lecture
It has become habitual character for Christians (especially, Nigeria Christians) to stand aloof politically. The Nigeria Christians are so religious to the extent that they have believed that participation in politics is an abomination and rebellious act against God. Some Nigeria Christians believe that anyone who involves in politics involves in the evil practice of the world. This thought is too shallow. It is neither godly nor biblical. Despite the fact that the whole world is full of evils, we, human beings, are still living on earth. Christians should now understand that if the society is unethical, the politics is corrupted. If the society is full of fraudulence and disobedience, the politics is faulty. And if the politics is corrupted and faulty, the Christianity efforts are ineffective. If the Christianity is ineffective in the political circle, it means that Christians had negligently involved themselves in the approval of corruption in the country. If the Christians keep on being excluded, they are inefficient against the progress, growth and development of their nation. The Christians’ idleness and laziness and reluctance to participate in politics reveal them as cowards. Whatever violence and barbaric act which may happens to a society is the result of lack of Christians’ mission fulfillment and Christians’ participation in politics. Study Moses as the case study (Exodus and Leviticus).
Society Growth and Development depends on an Era Constituted Authority:-
And again, politics can neither do good nor bad to the society by itself because it cannot act on itself. Politics is the acts of human beings. Politics cannot perform any action by itself; the actions of the politicians determine the outcome of the societal politics. Be informed that the godly people of moral that are trained in the way of the Lord Jesus Christ could only reign with the fear of God and restore peace for the growth, progress and development of a nation. Study Prophet Samuel and King David as the case study (I & II Samuel and I Kings Chapters 1 to 11).
Politics is not an Abomination:-
Some politicians say that the politics is a game, yes, agreed. Others say politics is a dirty game. That’s a fallacy. Each politician determines how the politics of his own time will be. If the political player (politician) is dirty, then, the political game of the dirty politician will be dirty because the player is already dirty, his game also should be dirty. If the political game of a politician is rough, it means the politician as a player is rough too. Corruptions could not be emerged in the politics unless if the politician is corrupted before he is emerged as a politician. The scripture says:- Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? – Romans 6: 16 (NIV). This implies that if a Politician is delighted in corruptions and dirty political game, he would be corrupted in dirty political game. Otherwise, he would be uncorrupted in transparency and accountability political game. Therefore, politics can never be a sin and rebellion against God if the political personnel are not corrupt.
Christianity is for Political Transformation
It is the high time now for Christians to wake up and see to politics. Because the men of God withdrew from participating in politics, it then becomes home of corruptions. So, the political forum had now become a society where people need gospel and salvation which can only be accomplished through Christians involvement because Christians are the carrier of moral, love and other godly teachings that can influence political circle in a society. Without all these teachings, government will be less concerned about the progress and welfare of the society. Christians should reach all the political parties with the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ for the establishment of peaceful, conducive and prosperous society (Matthew 28: 18 – 20, Mark 16: 15 – 18).
Conclusion:-
Christians have a lot of work to do in the politics if they are actually commissioned for the propagation of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Christians have extra miles to go if they really want to perform the task of Operation Reach All (ORA). If they continue running away from politics, that means they are cowards and lazy. All the Christians should remember that the covenant they made with Jesus Christ is to be His disciples and preach the gospel to all. Jesus Christ had commissioned, all the Christians to Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone, everywhere Mark 16: 15 (NLT). The world includes Politicians’ circles, you Christians should mix with them and propagate the gospel into their lives. May the Lord open our understanding heart to meditate in His message and do the needful in Jesus Name.
