INTRODUCTION:-
Many people may be querying the above topic by asking that “Was Abraham a Minister?” “Did Abraham had any ministry or obligation which has to do with God or any responsibility to perform between God and mankind?” Uncountable people would ask “Was Abraham a Priest? a Prophet? a Pastor? an Evangelist or an Apostle?”
People would like to ask the questions above because of their ignorance and lack of knowledge towards some hidden contents of the scripture which may happen due to inability to mediate deep and deeper on each word, each phrase, each sentence, each paragraph and each passage of the scripture. Today, this article opens our eyes and mind to it that Abraham was a Minister of God in the multi-ministry of God.
WHAT MADE ABRAHAM TO BE A MINISTER OF GOD?
Whenever the scripture says “God called a person”, it implies that the God is intended to use such person for a certain purpose for the God never call one in vain and if God calls a person, He called him to serve. The reasons why Abraham is identified as a Minister of God are:-
i. God called him – He then became a called (Genesis 12).
ii. God titled him “a Prophet” (Genesis 20: 6 – 7).
iii. God and Abraham mutual and constant interactions proves that Abraham had godly ministerial call – as God always talked to Abraham, he listened and obeyed (James 2: 23, Genesis Chapter 12 to 15).
God always monitored Abraham – as God was monitoring Abraham, Abraham was being watchful and warned (Genesis Chapter 12 to 25).
THE MINISTRIES OF ABRAHAM
The scripture reveals that the God called Abraham to vacate from his father’s land for another unknown land (Genesis 12: 1). And instantly, the Lord God began proclaiming the benefits of Abraham if he could obey and answer the call of God (Genesis 12: 2 – 3) and then, Abraham reacted to the God’s call (Genesis 12: 4 – 9).
Abraham was called to separate himself from his pagan environment the purposes listed below:
a. To procreate new godly generation.
b. To establish the new godly generation being procreated.
c. To train and teach the new godly generation to become a chosen generation of God.
d. Abraham was called by God to locate and establish a physical land where his lineage would inherit forever.
e. Abraham was called to make his settlement place a great and godly sacred place for God worship and service.
f. Abraham was called by God to train and teach his descendants in the ways of God so that he and his descendants would be useful in bringing spiritual blessing and redemption to all families of the earth through his generation (and this was fulfilled in the birth, life, sufferings, death and the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ).
g. Abraham was identified as a Prophet and a Deliverance Minister (Genesis 20: 6 – 7).
h. Abraham was also a warrior (Genesis 14).
CONCLUSION:-
Abraham was a call of deliverance. He was called to deliver and recover man from sinful life to godly life and from oppression to liberty. And this was done through the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ from his lineage (Mathew 1: 1 – 25).
Now, despite that Abraham was a Minister of God, ministering for the establishment of godly lineage so as to enable the kingdom of God be founded and erected on earth, he (Abraham) had his vocation (which is livestock keeping) as the source of his welfare for himself and his household. This implies that a Minister of God should not just be lazy, if he is not busy in the ministry, he (minister) should involve himself in a vocation beneficial to lessen his followers burden and to improve his welfare.
